INTEGRATIVE MEDICINE
Integrative healing is based on a practitioner-client partnership in which both conventional and alternative modalities are used to stimulate the body’s natural healing potential. This is the practice of combining alternative, complementary and conventional therapies to take advantage of the strengths of each system and to offset their weaknesses. Practitioners of integrative medicine have training and interest in both conventional Western medicine and alternative and complementary therapies, bringing a variety of techniques to their practices. It is a growing field of medicine in which the patient and providers collaborate to develop a diagnostic and therapeutic program that draws on a variety of traditions, to address an individual’s specific needs. Protocols developed in this framework, may include one or more modalities of treatment, diagnostic testing, natural and pharmaceutical therapies, as well as, referrals to other practitioners.
